“It’d be extremely useful in a zombie apocalypse,” Wolf argues. He’s about two seconds away from starting to wag his tail like a puppy.

“How would it be useful?” Xem asks. “Once you’ve thrown it you’re left without a weapon.”

“You’d just get it back of course.”

“Amidst all the other zombies? Not a chance,” Madden says.

We’re en route to a facility where we’re going to be ax throwing. I convinced Kyle that it was time to let the guys have some fresh air. They started to bicker and get on each other’s nerves. So I booked the most aggressive outing I could think of other than going to a shooting range. Somehow I didn’t feel like seeing any guns. I don’t trust Wolf with a gun and frankly I’m sick of them after everything that has to do with guns.

“You do realize you’re the first one to go in a zombie apocalypse, right?" Wolf asks Xem.

“Why?”

“Because of all the smoking. You’d be out of breath and they’d catch you first.”

“But Bryson still smokes too!” Xem argues.

“Yes, but lights, and we all know those don’t really count,” Wolf says, rolling his eyes.

“What about Lily? She has really small legs.”

“Hey!” I shout. “I take objection to that!”

“I’ll throw her over my shoulder and we’ll run together,” Madden joins the conversation.

“Why don’t we all just shut up, get out of the car, and go have some fun?” I ask, because we’ve reached the large hangar that has been transformed to a place where you can have all kinds of fun.

“Yes, ma’am,” Wolf says, opening the door for me.

I can see Kyle with a half smirk on his face, shaking his head.

A second van with more security guys arrives, and I feel so guilty they’re here and necessary. If it wasn’t for me there’d be way less security. Then again – they’d be self destructing or staying at home doing nothing if it wasn’t for me either. With a huge sigh, I come to terms with the fact that this is reality and that I can’t change a damn thing about it.

Madden walks towards me, bends down, grabs me by the waist and throws me over his shoulder.

I shriek-laugh and clutch onto him, because the fucker starts running towards the entrance and the ride is bumpy as fucking hell. My laughter gets harder when I see Kyle running after us, because he or one of his guys have to be the first ones to enter the facility to check everything is safe.

I wave at him when he passes us, swearing.

“I don’t think the zombies are here, Mad,” I tell him.

“You never know Evy, Wolf doesn’t have to be a zombie to try and eat your arm,” he says while he sets me down on the ground in front of the door.

I smack his shoulder, but the grin on my face is too wide to make any kind of an impression.

“See, I can totally save you from certain death because of small legs,” he says grinning just as wide.
